Regional Science Center Calicut helps you to make a cheep model rocket
all by yourself. It is very
simple and less expensive. There are courses on this held at RSC.
REQUIREMENTS
1) Thick chart paper
2) A small rocket cracker (divali rocket)
3) Scissors
4) Glue
5) A straw
6) A rocket launcher
MAIN PARTS
1) NOSE CONE
Nose cone is the part of the rocket which is on the top. It is one of the
main parts of the rocket which
controls the direction of the rocket. It is in the shape "^".
To make the nose cone, cut a piece of paper into
a semicircle and roll it in such a way that the middle point of the straight
line becomes the center.
(See diagram). Be sure that the body tube can be inserted in it.
2) BODY TUBE
Body tube is the long cylindrical part of the rocket. It is made by rolling
a rectangular sheet .
3) COUPLING RING
Coupling ring is used to fix the body tube to the nose cone properly.
4) THRUST RING
Thrust ring is used to fix the engine properly in its place.
5) FINS
They are the most important part of a rocket. They control the direction
of the rocket. All the four fins should
be equal in their dimensions. They can be pasted on the body.
6) ENGINE
The engine of an actual rocket is very complex. But here we can use a simple
engine. This engine can be
obtained from a divali rocket (crakers). First remove the stick of the
cracker by simply pulling it then pull out the
bomb which is placed on the nose cone of the cracker. Now seal the end
where the bomb was placed .Now the
engine is ready.
